One of Boots star gift this week is the Millie Mackintosh set. Also available was the Nails Inc Unicorn kit but this one appealed to me more.
Who is Millie?: She is a trained Make up Artist who found fame through Made In Chelsea.
Who’s the manufacturer?: SLG, they manufacture Tanya Burr’s & Zoella’s lines as well.
I have to say the packaging is very pretty and is what grabbed my attention initially.
What encouraged me to buy was the sheer volume of products that you get in this kit. I am going to go through each in detail.
Luxe Glow Face Illuminator: Not to start on a bad note but I was not a fan of this. There is quite a lot of glitter visible on the skin & to the touch it feels loaded with dimethicone. Maybe I might enjoy it more in the summer. To be fair this kind of product is not my favourite in general so it would have needed to be pretty special to impress me.
Bronzer : Described as a warm tan bronzer for a supper flattering glow. I really liked this. I found it to be perfect for my pale skin. It’s not too pigmented so can be built up easily. It gave me a gorgeous subtle glow.
Eye-shadow Quad: There was no matte white/cream eye-shadow in this so I used my face powder to set my lids. There didn’t seem to be any matte transition shade in the palette either as the light mauve colour seemed liked it had glitter in it. But when I went to put it in my crease it turned out to be the most gorgeous buttery matte colour perfect for the crease. The burgundy colour was a little hard to work with but I got there in the end & really like the colour. The darkest colour was a tough cookie to crack. I don’t think I’d bother using it again. Finally the lightest colour in the palette which is a definite shimmer shade , and I assumed would be the most pigmented ,was practically non existent! I had to really dig my brush in to try & get some pay off 😦
I was happy enough with the eye look I created but it was more work than I like or usually need to put in. I think I’ll try to depot the lighter mauve colour cause I really loved it.
Brow Duo: This is a nice little powder. I put the darker colour in the later 2/3’s of the brow & mixed the lighter in with the darker for the front. It’s not overly pigmented which I like in a brow powder cause it means it’s harder to make a mistake.
Lip Liner: This was extremely creamy & easy to apply. It’s a wooden pencil that you need to sharpen and has a tad perfumey taste to it.. The shade is a tiny bit lighter than I am used to wearing but I am warming up to it. I think it’ll be a nice colour for underneath a lipstick I want to tone down. I really like this one.
Eyeliner : This is a soft black kohl. It doesn’t drag or pull the eye & goes on quite smooth. It smudges out nicely on the lid but I found that it doesn’t stick in the waterline & there is quite a bit of transfer .
Lip Lacquer: The applicator on this isn’t the best. The product seems to bunch up on the tip of the wand so you have to be particular where you place the product. It can be a bit messy. There isn’t a smell or taste which is good. It’s comfortable on, not gloppy or sticky. It’s a nice gloss.
Lip liner & Lacquer combined: Here is where things seemed to go a little bit wrong. It’s like the gloss moved the liner around & up close it looked kind of patchy. These colours pull kinda peachy on me which I kinda feel doesn’t go with the eye look. Which is fine but they are being sold as a kit. Could also be my own natural pigment reacting with it.
I’m trying to take more pictures of me with make up on, but I am struggling with angles and clarity & having pictures of my face up full stop! Any advice on how to take better pictures with my I-phone 6 would be greatly appreciated.
Anywho, is this collection worth your money? I think at the €19 price point, for me, yes. I really like the bronzer, mauve colour in the quad, brow duo & lip liner. So there is enough in that lot to justify the price. Also, If you like & support Millie or if you are starting out with make up & want to try out a selection of products.
I definitely don’t think it is worth The €38 though, so if you are thinking of picking it up I would suggest to do it this week.
